Baba Harare Makes Surprise Return to Jiti Music

Zimbabwean musician Baba Harare has announced his return to the Jiti music genre yesterday, just a year after quitting to pursue gospel music. In a Facebook post, he wrote, "Good morning Jiti family. Shoko rakasvika. I am coming back to assume my rightful throne. Hazviite kuti musare musina baba. Album loading…" This move has sparked mixed reactions from fans, with some welcoming him back and others questioning his motives.

Baba Harare's decision to return to Jiti comes amid concerns about the treatment of gospel artists.

Some artists have reported being expected to work for free or minimal pay due to the perceived spiritual nature of their work for example Madam Boss also commented saying she faced the same challenge.

This expectation can lead to exploitation and disrespect. Industry stakeholders emphasize the importance of fair treatment, including honouring payment commitments and providing respect, for the growth and sustainability of the gospel industry.

Theatre practitioner Enisia Mashusha has allegedly thrown her support behind Baba Harare's Jiti comeback, saying artists should be free to express themselves authentically. "Not every born-again person is pure, and not every artiste who avoids gospel is a sinner. A person's artistic gift is a blessing. Welcome back, Baba Harare! It’s great to see you sharing your talent authentically through Jiti music."

Baba Harare's return to Jiti is expected to come with new music.

His Facebook post suggests that he is working on a new album, which fans are eagerly awaiting.

This development has reignited discussions about artistic direction and the pressures faced by musicians in the industry .
